The Plai Laem area is located between the areas of Big Buddha and Choeng Mon and is runs up along the west coast of the north east peninsular and over the top taking in a few small bays on the eastern side as far as Tongson beach.
The white soft sands on the west facing unspoiled palm fringed beach stretches for 2 km however the sea is quite shallow and swimming is restricted to just paddling in most places. The popular beach of Choeng Mon with more activity is just a few minutes drive away.
The view from Plai Laem beach is stunning and is one of the best places to see Koh Samui’s amazing sunsets as the sun disappears beyond the sloping hills and north coastline. An ideal place to relax, read a book and enjoy the scenery.

Wat Plai Laem
This is the main attraction in Plai Laem and well worth seeing, offering the visitor an insight into Chinese-Thai history with art, murals and architecture depicting this period throughout. There are two temples and two impressive 40ft statues, including one with 18 arms. It is an active working temple and the best time would be to visit early morning when the serenity of Buddhism is apparent, dress respectfully.

Boat Trips
The Plai Laem Pier at the Big Buddha end of the beach is now well signposted. Sightseeing, snorkelling and sunset cruises as well as fishing trips can be arranged from here or through your local tour shop.
