The 1 week long Koh Samui Regatta hosted by Centara Grand Beach Resort is underway on Chaweng beach and finishes on 2nd June. This spectacular event is a must see for all sailing enthusiasts enjoyin a Koh Samui holiday if not actually registered in the competition.
Many long term and some new teams have sent their yachts from Hong Kong, China, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and Phuket for the season ending shoot out. Reminiscent of early Phuket King's Cup days, when the lure of some fun, on and off the water, on a tropical Thai island, is hard to resist and continues to attract top level International teams, that have transformed Samui Island into a world-class sailing and sports tourism destination.
The date for the 6th Charity Koh Samui Midnight Run is 24th March 2018.
Organised by Thai Hotel Association and the Thai Association of Koh Samui the run will be over 5km or 10km around the streets of Chaweng starting and ending at the Reggae Pub. Proceeds from the even wil mainly go to the new School for Autistic Children (Special Needs School) and the "Green Project".
There are a number of entry categories ranging from children 11 yrs to over 50's and teh fe is 500THB or 1,000THB to include a Grand Raffle.
A recent conference in Thailand used as its basis survey results that said more than 50% of Thais agree that the best way to lower the amount of bags used is to make consumers pay for them.
Experiences in foreign countries that have had success with this method were brought up for discussion.
Some suggested that it was important that there were better standards of bags – if they break people would not want to pay for them. There should be standards in place to ensure quality and most were in agreement that the government needs to act with firm leadership in the matter.
2000 visitors stepped ashore from the first Chinese cruise ship to visit Koh Samui recently and bring good business to the island for the day.
