Villa Suralai is a unique private villa retreat that once inside, guests find it incredibly hard to leave.
Suralai was designed to be the most luxurious private villa on the island. The furniture, fittings and artworks have been painstakingly sourced or custom made for the residence and are all of the highest quality. The expansive living spaces of the main building feature floor-to-ceiling glass which opens to cool mountain breezes in the afternoon, and Bose speakers located throughout the property make it easy to create whatever ambiance that you may wish to create.
As you enter the villa steps lead up to a reflecting pond and to the left is the huge open plan living room with wood-lined vaulted ceiling.
The room is exquisitely furnished with contemporary furniture, artwork and ornaments. But the whole front of the room opens onto a balcony with a glass balustrade that affords spectacular views across the mountains and valley to Bophut Bay and the neighbouring island of Koh Phang Ngan.
A polished dark wooden table and contrasting white chairs occupy one end of the living room with the lounge area with plush contemporary black and white leather sofas and a 50" falt screen TV at the far end. Making up the centre area is a black gloss and chrome open kitchen that runs along the back of the room fronted by a white polished island breakfast bar and stools. At the far end of the room a comfortable lounge area consisting of plush white leather sofas, stone tables, modern sculptures and a 50 inch flat screen TV. This sophisticated room is finished with polished grey terrazzo floor tiles and dark wood.
The wide stone balcony has plenty of outdoor furniture, a further dining area and looks over the garden below, the large pool terrace and the black tiled infinity pool. On either side of the balcony are stone staircases leading to the other levels of this expansive villa.
On the right, steps lead down to the lower level where there are three bedrooms situated below the main living area. Each double bedroom is stylishly fitted with contemporary furniture and artwork, has built-in wardrobes and benefits from an en-suite shower room with twin sinks. Each of these three bedrooms also has a private balcony with day-bed and seating that looks across the sea views and down over the garden and pool.
Staying on the right side, further steps lead you down into the garden and to the pool terrace and pool. At the right end of the pool is a large Sala complete with bar and stools sunken into the pool itself. The Sala has built in benches and comfortable cushioned seating.
Steps from the Sala lead down to a corridor that runs underground and alongside the pool. Sitiated here is the well-equipped gym which also has windows, allowing sea views, and doors that open into a garden and lawn area.
Stepping stones lead from this garden up to the first of three master suites that occupy a three-storey building. The ground floor suite sits below the pool level with views over the garden and over the valley to the ocean. It has a separate dressing area, twin beds and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and a distinctive grey circular terrazzo bathtub.
Above this room, at poolside level, is another suite with separate dressing area, a modern four poster bed and an en-suite bathroom with a shower and an oval shaped grey terrazzo bathtub.
On the third story of this master pavilion is yet another suite that again has a dressing area, a four poster bed and an en-suite bathroom with shower and grey oval shaped terrazzo bathtub. In each of these suites the bathtubs are positioned at the front of the rooms with windows maximising the stunning panoramic views.
Finally, steps lead back up onto the wide balcony and to the lounge, kitchen and dining area. This is a very large property that has been beautifully designed to provide both private and practical accommodation that's suitable for large families or groups of friends. The flexibility of the villa also makes it an ideal choice for weddings and events.

Guests at Suralai can also enjoy beach access through a special beach club arrangement at the exclusive 5-star Sala Samui Resort & Spa at Cheong Mon Beach. Suralai was the residence of the angels in Thai mythology and, being situated alone and right on the top of a mountain, this seems an appropriate name.

We stayed at Villa Suralai in the beautiful Bophut Hills for our family holiday in Ko Samui and it completely exceeded our expectations. “Home of the Angels” is the perfect name — this place feels like heaven!
The views are breathtaking from every angle — panoramic sea vistas over Bophut Bay and towards Koh Phangan. Waking up to that every morning with the kids was magical. The 25-metre infinity pool is huge and perfect for little ones to splash around safely, with a great Thai-style sala for relaxing or having meals by the water. The swim-up bar was a fun bonus too.
The villa itself is stunning — spacious 6-bedroom layout with private balconies in every room, luxurious ensuites, and that massive cathedral-ceiling living area that opens right onto the terrace. Everything felt spotlessly clean, modern yet with lovely Thai touches, and super comfortable after long travel days.
Staff (especially the villa manager) T,Cha and beau were exceptional — friendly, helpful, and always one step ahead. Nothing was too much trouble, from kid-friendly arrangements to recommendations for nearby Fisherman’s Village (just a short drive away).
Location-wise, it’s peaceful and private up in the hills but still convenient — quick drive to beaches, restaurants, and attractions. Ideal for families wanting luxury without the resort crowds.

Our stay at Villa Suralai was nothing short of spectacular and surpassed all our expectations. This hilltop paradise truly is a "home of the angels," offering a perfect blend of absolute privacy, world-class service, and breathtaking design.
From the moment we arrived, the panoramic views of Bophut Bay and the distant Koh Phangan from the 25-meter infinity pool left us speechless. Waking up to this sunrise-to-sunset vista from our private terrace was a daily highlight.
What truly makes Suralai exceptional:
· Dedicated Staff Team: The villa team, especially the Villa Manager, ensured every detail of our stay was flawless. The private chef prepared incredible Thai and Western meals, shopping for fresh ingredients and even hosting fantastic BBQs. The chef's skill with diverse cuisines, from authentic Thai to Italian and French, was a major highlight.
· Stunning Design & Spaces: The villa's architecture, with its soaring cathedral ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass doors, creates a magnificent social hub. We loved moving between the open-plan living area, the poolside Thai-style sala for casual lunches, and the well-equipped private gym.
· Perfect for Special Occasions: We celebrated a special birthday during our stay, and the team made it incredibly memorable. The villa is also described as an "exceptional setting for a wedding," and it's easy to see why.
A Note on Location & Convenience
The villa is secluded and peaceful,yet conveniently located. It's just a five-minute drive from the charming Fisherman's Village with its shops and famous Friday night market, and about 15 minutes from the airport. While you'll need transport, the villa manager can effortlessly arrange taxis or recommend great places to visit.
We cannot recommend Villa Suralai highly enough. It’s the perfect retreat for families or groups of friends seeking a luxurious, private, and pampered vacation in Koh Samui. We left feeling rejuvenated and are already dreaming of our return.

Fabulous views, everything you need and the staff went above and beyond to make our holiday special. Although the location is away from the main road, it is so easy to arrange transportation it was not an issue and the peaceful atmosphere at the villa made it all worth while.

Nothing cooler than when you pass a place and wish that you were staying there, only to find out that you are! That’s what happened as we were driven to Suralai from the airport. Our driver passed it and I said to my wife how gorgeous the property was, but the driver was just turning around so he could drop us off closer. Talk about great first impressions.
Suralai is one of the best kept secrets, known by the select few. I only found out about it by seeing pictures of it on my friend’s social media postings when they stayed there. It’s a privately owned residence with six bedrooms, but being on our honeymoon we took the place for just the two of us.
The views are nothing more than spectacular. The beautifully designed Thai villa is situated on a high point of the mountain overlooking Koh Samui. Only about 10 minutes drive from the famous Fisherman’s Village, and seeing Koh Samui isn’t big anyway, it’s convenient to get around from by car.
The staff are fantastic. We were looked after by Khun Tee, who not only spoke great English but is also fluent in Mandarin. Their in-house chef cooked up some amazing meals for us too, and it’s staffed 24 hours a day.
They have a small gym, which supplies the basics needed to keep fit. But I never used it as their gorgeously situated infinity pool was large enough for me to do laps in. My wife was most taken by their bathtub. It fits two and takes advantage of the views in front of the property.
We had a great 4 nights stay there and are already planning to go back next year, but with more of the family so we can actually use all of the rooms next time.

This was an amazing villa and I can't believe how wonderful it was. It was far better than the pictures. From the moment we arrived Mr Tee and his staff made us so welcome and could not do enough to help us. The first morning we delicious breakfast and lounged around the beautiful pool all day. The rooms were big and clean with toiletries and hairdryer and luxurious towels and gowns. There were also towels by the pool. We had supper in the villa most nights which were Thai banquets and delicious. The catered for my gluten intolerance too. The meals were such good value. Mr Tee, Chai and Cob were a fantastic team and did our shopping for drinks etc. Mr Tee helped me find a venue for my 60th Birthday, which was perfect. He even sourced gluten free cupcakes for me. He was fantastic at organising taxis to pick us up whenever we wanted.
It was a dream come true to spend a holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday with 12 family and friends.
